Dr. Horton’s Liposuction and Breast Reduction Patient Featured in ASPS Video
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) is an organization dedicated to educating people about safe and effective Cosmetic and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery and the importance of Board Certification for Plastic Surgeons. ASPS recently featured a patient of Dr. Karen Horton in their latest educational campaign about what type of patients seek Plastic Surgery any why. Kym had breast reduction surgery and liposuction with Dr. Horton and she shared how her procedure has improved her life.
San Francisco Patient Shares Her Breast Reduction Story
Kym is a strong, bold woman of color who is not afraid to live out loud. She loves bold, bright colors and she knows how to make a statement. Unfortunately, her large breasts were preventing her from fully enjoying life. She suffered neck pain, headaches, sciatica, and tingling pain in her arms due to the weight of her breasts.
Breast Reduction Surgery Brings Relief
Kym says, “After the surgery, my life totally changed. I’m living my best life.”
Kym says that breast reduction surgery was, “the BEST decision I have made for myself in my ENTIRE LIFE! My life has changed drastically!” In addition to looking great and being able to wear a button up blouse that actually buttons up, Kym has experienced countless life-improving benefits. She is enjoying relief from the physical effects of heavy breasts and says that she no longer has backaches, headaches, rashes, numbness, neck aches or shoulder pain. She is thrilled that she is able to exercise comfortably and is taking advantage of running and biking. Kym is also enjoying sleeping on her stomach and back, after decades of only being able to sleep on her side.
Kym’s Experience Choosing a Breast Reduction Surgeon
Kym was certain she wanted breast reduction surgery, but she was not willing to settle for a Plastic Surgeon who was not right for her. She says, “It took me over 5 years to find Dr. Karen Horton. Before I did the proper research, I literally went to countless consultations with practically every Plastic Surgeon in the entire Bay Area. The important thing for me was that at each of these appointments, I arrived prepared with a list of questions and concerns which in several cases the answers I received helped me to rule that Surgeon out.”
Once she met Dr. Horton, she knew she had found the best Plastic Surgeon for her:
Kym is so grateful for the care she received in Dr. Horton’s office and is so thrilled with her results that she has affectionately calls Dr. Horton her “SHE-RO”.
Kym’s Breast Reduction Surgery and Recovery
One of the reasons Kym was so happy with her choice to have Dr. Horton perform her surgery is that she felt Dr. Horton did an excellent job helping her feel fully prepared. Kym says that she felt comforted by Dr. Horton’s availability before and after the surgery and confident because Dr. Horton took the time to explain the surgical process. She also says, “She explained that when I woke up, she would be there—and she WAS there when I woke up. I was so impressed that Dr. Horton gave my husband and I her direct cell phone number and told us if there were ANY concerns or problems to feel free to call or text her at any time!”
Kym felt immediate relief of her neck and back pain after surgery. Her surgical plan also included liposuction of her bra roll, back and inner thighs, and while she did experience some temporary soreness during liposuction recovery, she felt that Dr. Horton had prepared her so well that she was not caught off guard by any of her symptoms or feelings during recovery.
Kym’s Advice for Women Seeking Breast Reduction
Kym wants other women to understand that you do not have to live with pain, discomfort, or unhappiness with your body. If you do feel ready for surgery, it is important to find the surgeon who is right for you. Kym advises women to avoid too much internet research, which can be confusing. First she says to check if a surgeon is affiliated with the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, because that means that they have been thoroughly trained and found to have proper credentials. Kym says, “Make sure your Doctor is a Plastic Surgeon, not a Medical Doctor who decided to do Plastic Surgery for the money!”
A few more tips from Kym:
- Have a list of questions regarding the process, recovery time and anything you may need to be aware of and do not select a doctor that cannot answer your questions to your complete satisfaction.
- Ask to see “before” and “after” pictures of actual patients who have had the same procedure you are having.
- Think twice about leaving the country to have inexpensive Plastic Surgery. It is risky and can be very dangerous because other countries do not have the same guidelines and standards as the United States.
- Plan ahead and go into your surgery healthy, mentally, and physically fit as you can be.
- Do not be embarrassed to share your experience with family and friends; you never know who you are going to help.
