If you have an upcoming appointment with San Francisco Plastic Surgery, you will receive a text message confirming your appointment with an invitation and registration code to download the Symplast app. With Symplast, you’ll have the opportunity to access and download your before and after images, manage your patient records, view your upcoming appointments and call or email us directly, adding another layer of engagement to your experience with us.
Additionally, we’ll ask you to fill out patient registration forms before your appointment. Whether you’re a longstanding patient of Dr. Horton’s or our Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner, Emily Sespaniak, filling out these forms online via the MozartMD platform will help establish your profile in our new system. Rest assured, all patient data and photos are encrypted to maintain confidentiality.
For some individuals, the thought of meeting with a Plastic Surgeon for the first time may be exciting, nerve-racking, or intimidating. Don’t be nervous. Rest assured, your visit to our office promises to be a delightful and inviting experience, filled with warmth and positivity. Our entire team is here to ensure you have the best possible visit. Following your consultation, you’ll depart feeling well-informed and empowered.
Once your paperwork is complete on the day of your appointment, Dr. Horton will warmly welcome you in the waiting room and personally accompany you to her office for a confidential consultation tailored to your needs. During your initial visit, plan to spend at least an hour with us. Dr. Horton will conduct a thorough review of your medical history, discuss your motivations for surgery, delve into your aesthetic objectives, and attentively address any inquiries or apprehensions you may have regarding the procedure. Please don’t be shy! “No question is silly” is one of our mottos.
We recommend preparing a list of questions to bring to your consultation. Feel free to bring a friend or family member with you to your appointment for support. During your visit, we’ll assess your concerns and suitability for surgery. If appropriate, we’ll thoroughly explain procedures, and risks, and show examples. If desired, we’ll also connect you with previous patients as references to get their firsthand experience and insights. We focus on building a strong rapport to ensure your comfort and educate you to the best of our ability, using other patients’ journeys as an adjunct.
After your discussion with Dr. Horton, you will meet our Patient Coordinator, Mary, to discuss the procedure further, evaluate your timeline and your budget, go over itemized fees for surgery, and schedule your surgery when you are ready. There is no pressure to schedule right away; we encourage patients to take their time in deciding on Plastic Surgery and to ensure they have appropriate time off needed for recovery and resources available to help them during their downtime.
Before your first visit, we invite you to meet our Aesthetic Surgery Staff to familiarize yourself with the wonderful team you will meet at our office.
Dear Dr. Horton, I just wanted to tell you how incredibly nice it was to meet a surgeon who has not only a great bedside manner but also has a great way of building that line of dialogue with the patient. This patient being myself. I felt so comfortable with you. I had a bunch of questions written down and you answered almost every single one without me even having to ask. I felt you did a great job of being proactive in your surgical plan and ensuring my absolute safety. I didn't feel like you minimized any of my concerns and you were tactful and kind in your truths. I just wanted to know that I left your office feeling very confident that I picked the right physician to help me heal myself. Thank you also for making me quit smoking! Now that I understand why nicotine is so bad for healing it made quitting very easy. I am so excited to be your patient. You are genuinely caring and nice and your staff is lovely. I'm looking forward to working with you in the doctor/patient relationship. Thank you for agreeing to take on my case. I have every confidence that I will be pleased with the final outcome. Thank you so much!

When considering Plastic Surgery, it’s crucial to select a Surgeon who is Board-Certified in Plastic Surgery by either the American Board of Plastic Surgery or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Dr. Horton proudly holds certifications from both Boards. Additionally, your Surgeon should possess extensive experience in the specific procedure(s) you’re interested in, demonstrate meticulousness in the operating room, and prioritize safety above all else.
An ideal Plastic Surgeon will exhibit a refined artistic sensibility, a compassionate bedside manner, and consistently deliver satisfactory surgical outcomes. Establishing a strong rapport with your Surgeon is essential, fostering trust and a sense of partnership between doctor and patient. Dr. Horton emphasizes shared decision-making, ensuring that you feel empowered throughout the process. Finally, it’s important to feel at ease in the office environment, with friendly interactions with staff, and a sense of personal compatibility with your surgeon.
We recommend that new patients speak with former patients who have had the same procedure(s) you are seeking. We will provide you with patient references of individuals who have volunteered to speak openly and honestly about their surgical experience, how they decided to have surgery, and whether they would do it again!
