In our Bay Area practice, one of the most requested injectable treatments is lip filler. Whether you’re looking to address age-related changes to the lips or improve fullness or proportions, our goal with every aesthetic treatment is to help each of our patients feel confident about the way they look.
While some people are lucky to be born with naturally full, pouty lips, this isn’t the case for all of us. Additionally, as part of the body’s natural aging process, lips can appear wrinkled, thin, and begin to lose shape. Emily Sespaniak, NP can address these concerns with dermal fillers in a relatively quick in-office procedure with minimal downtime.
The lip fillers we use include Restylane® Kysse and Juvéderm® Ultra XC, which are made of a gel that contains hyaluronic acid (HA), a substance that is produced by the body naturally. Hyaluronic acid keeps connective tissues moist so that they retain water. When hyaluronic acid fillers are injected into the lips, they can be gently sculpted to enhance both lip volume and shape while diminishing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Our patients enjoy a wide range of benefits after lip augmentation with hyaluronic acid dermal fillers, including:
If you’re interested in lip fillers, we recommend you set up a consultation with Nurse Practitioner Emily Sespaniak. During your meeting with her, you will have the opportunity to discuss your specific cosmetic concerns and goals. Emily will help you decide if you are a good candidate for lip filler treatment, and if so, which dermal filler will help you achieve the results you desire.
Lip enhancement with dermal fillers is an in-office treatment that takes only about 15 to 30 minutes. Prior to your procedure, a topical numbing cream will be applied to ensure your comfort during the treatment. You will recline in a comfortable treatment chair while Emily injects the dermal filler into your lips and sculpts the material to achieve your desired results.
While there is typically minimal downtime after lip filler, you may experience some swelling and/or bruising at the injection sites, so we recommend you do not schedule lip filler treatment within two weeks of an important event to ensure you are fully healed.
Immediately following your treatment, we recommend you apply a cold pack to the area to help with any swelling and bruising. We also want you to avoid exercise for 48 hours after treatment.
While you will notice a change in lip volume immediately following treatment, you should know that some of what you see is swelling and this is not your final result. It takes a full two weeks for swelling to completely resolve and for you to see the final results of your treatment.
How much are lip fillers?
The cost of lip augmentation with dermal fillers differs for each patient, and is dependent on factors like the brand and volume of filler used to achieve desired results. It’s best to schedule a consultation to get an idea of cost.
How long do lip fillers last?
The results of dermal filler lip injections aren’t permanent, as the body will naturally metabolize the fillers over time. The duration of lip filler results varies according to the filler used, but most of our patients come in for a touch up every six to twelve months.
Are lip fillers safe?
Dermal fillers used for lip augmentation are considered safe for use in patients who are in good health, especially when performed by a skilled injector like Emily Sespaniak, NP. Still, any cosmetic procedure is associated with some risks. Side effects of dermal filler lip injections may include:
