What You Need To Know About Hyaluron Pen and At-Home Lip Fillers
You may have heard of the Hyaluron pen on Groupon, TikTok, or YouTube. The Hyaluron pen is an at-home lip filler that people can purchase to self-inject at home. The Hyaluron pen promises to achieve the results of lip fillers, which are dermal injections performed at a doctor’s office, at a fraction of the cost.
The Hyaluron pen is non-invasive and can be purchased and administered without a medical license. This has been a strong selling point, but it does not mean that the Hyaluron pen is safe. In fact, Hyaluron lip filler pens are extremely dangerous.
Many women desire full lips and while enhancing the lips can be achieved through various cosmetic procedures, these treatments require a licensed medical professional to ensure effective, safe results.
How Does Hyaluron Pen Lip Filler Work?
The Hyaluron pen releases bursts of highly pressurized air to deliver non-medical grade hyaluronic acid (HA) into the skin. It’s important to note that this is not an FDA approved material, so the product is entirely unregulated. Theoretically, the pen allows users to deliver targeted HA volume to the lips by using the force from pressurized air to create microscopic holes in the skin. The HA filler product is then distributed subdermally to create plumper and fuller looking lips.
The Dangers of Hyaluron Pens
Hyaluron pen manufacturers promote these devices as painless, non-invasive alternatives to dermal lip fillers. However, these pens are unreliable and unsafe. Because the insertion of the HA is administered through pressurized air, precise placement and control is difficult to achieve. Many patients using these pens send too much HA filler into the treatment area, or deliver the HA filler to the wrong area altogether, leaving them with disfigured or lumpy-looking lips.
Additionally, the pen’s pressure can cause severe health issues such as permanent skin necrosis, infection, blocked blood vessels, bruising, and swelling.
Finally, these DIY Hyaluron filler pens lack clinical research regarding their use and the medical community simply doesn’t understand their long-term side effects.
