Before and after liposuction of the “buffalo hump” area. This area of “lipodystrophy” is located on the back of the neck and upper back region. This is a common genetic area to store fat, and can also be caused by medications that HIV positive individuals take to prevent progression of their disease.
Preoperative photos show circular bruised areas that were from “cupping” suction cup therapy this patient sought elsewhere for a different condition.
Ultrasound assisted liposuction (UAL) was used to aggressively debulk this area. Results of fat removal are permanent, as evidenced by long term follow up photos at over 4 years after surgery.
