Before and after liposuction of the neck in a 31-year-old woman. She was self-conscious about this region of her face and neck, and had tried several other non-surgical treatments in an attempt to reduce her submental fat collection.

Liposuction is always the most effective, reliable and permanent solution to excess fat under the chin, and it has the lowest potential complication rate as well! Energy-based devices can cause thinning of the skin and subcutaneous layer of fat, leading to a more aged look, and cold-based devices or chemical injections can cause permanent firm scarring and a paradoxical increase in fat.

Liposuction of the neck was performed as a simple outpatient procedure under local anesthesia with an oral anti-anxiety medication and inhaled laughing gas. After surgery, she wore a compressive chin strap for two weeks, which limited her swelling and postoperative bruising.

Scar therapy began at one month after surgery, which consisted of massaging her single tiny scar under her chin with scar gel provided by our office. She will continue to massage her scar until it is soft and flat, which often takes 6-9 months.

Fat removed using liposuction is gone permanently! If weight is gained after surgery, fat tends to be deposited everywhere. Fat will not “come back somewhere else” – instead, it could reaccumulate in the same anatomic region if that is your particular trouble zone. That is why a healthy diet and regular exercise regime is vital before surgery, so that good habits can be easily resumed after surgery when bruising resolves.

Early follow up photos are shown just 6 weeks after surgery. Her results speak for themselves!
