Before and after right earlobe repair in a 27 year old woman. Her earring had stretched after a pull on her earring from her dog. It healed in a stretched out manner and she no longer was able to wear a stud earring on that side – it just fell out of the stretched hole.
A combined earlobe (lobule) repair and re-piercing at the same time was done under local anesthesia. She was advised to bring a small hoop (the diameter of a dime or smaller so that it would not get pulled again or caught on anything) that was made out of gold, sterling silver or surgical steel (so as to not irritate the earlobe while healing, as inexpensive costume jewelry often made out of nickel can).
Follow up photos are shown two weeks after surgery. She will keep these earrings in place for another month, up to three months total, so that the new hole will heal well and does not close up too quickly. She will start scar therapy in another few weeks.
