Before and after left earlobe repair and repiercing in a 54-year-old woman. From years of holding the phone against her ear at work, her left ear piercing had become stretched out.
She wanted to keep an earring and have better symmetry with her right earlobe, which did not have the same issue. A left-side-only repair of the old piercing was performed at the same time as a repiercing just one millimeter beside the old hole.
Simply repairing the old piercing does not work well, since scar tissue is only up to 70% as strong as normal tissue. She did not want to accept the risk of the piercing stretching out again.
Follow up photos are shown 6 months after surgery, with a maturing scar and a healthy new ear piercing.
