Before and after bilateral upper lid blepharoplasty in a 48-year-old woman. She felt like her upper lids were getting heavy and drooping, making her look tired – even when she was not!
An upper lid skin-only (“pinch”) blepharoplasty removed excess skin from her upper lids as a straightforward procedure under local anesthesia. She was offered an oral anti-anxiety medication to take the night before and the morning of surgery and inhaled laughing gas during her surgery.
After her eyelid lift, she experienced bruising that slowly resolved over three weeks. She arranged to get eyelash extensions before surgery as a way to conceal her incisions and to make her feel less surgical during her surgical recovery.
We recommend eyelid surgery patients take a month of “social downtime” where they do not have major events where they need to show their face in case of swelling and bruising. Follow up photos are shown two years after surgery with a natural-looking result.
