Before and after bilateral upper lid blepharoplasty in a 62-year-old woman. Her hanging, droopy upper eyelids made her look tired, even after a good night’s sleep. She was unable to wear makeup without pulling her eyelid skin upward, and she wanted to recognize herself when she looked in the mirror!
A bilateral upper lid blepharoplasty was performed under local anesthesia with laughing gas and an oral anti-anxiety medication. After surgery, she took two weeks off work and a full month of “social downtime”.
The last set of images shows the surgical markings before surgery and an on-the-table result with the removable blue stitch woven underneath the delicate eyelid skin. This suture is removed one week after surgery. We do not use absorbable sutures for eyelids since the skin is so thin and heals very quickly, dissolving sutures can leave suture marks or actually impede healing.
Follow up photos are shown 3 months after surgery. She loves her results and everyone is commenting on how beautiful her eyes are – including us!
