Before and after revision abdominoplasty in a 58-year-old woman. When she was in her early twenties, she had an open cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal) through an obnoxiously long vertical scar involving her right abdomen.
She also she had a panniculectomy over a decade ago, which only removed her lower abdominal overhang of tissue – called an abdominal pannus. Panniculectomy surgery does not generally address rectus diastasis, separation of the rectus abdominis muscles that occurs with multiple pregnancies or massive obesity, of which she had a history of both.
She was looking for an improved belly contour and less of a reminder about her past gallbladder surgery adventure, where she spent nearly a month in the hospital recovering. A secondary tummy tuck removed additional lower abdominal skin and fat, revised her old gallbladder scar, and repaired her rectus abdominis muscles back together.
Liposuction removed excess fat from her upper and lower abdomen, flanks and pubic region. Follow up photos are shown a year and a half after surgery, with improved belly contour and maturing scars.
