Before and after bilateral breast implant reconstruction in a 63-year-old breast cancer survivor. She had been treated with a right lumpectomy and radiation and chemotherapy previously, with reconstruction by the breast reduction and lift (local tissue rearrangement) technique.
Now that her breasts were more symmetric, she decided that she also wanted her reconstructed breasts to be fuller and rounder; she requested a breast reconstruction revision that involved insertion of implants.
Smooth round silicone gel breast implants were placed on top of the muscle in the subglandular/prepectoral position. Follow up photos are shown a year and a half after surgery. The right radiated breast is still sitting a little higher up and is firmer than the non-radiated breast – these changes will be permanent due to the chronic effects of radiotherapy.
