Before and after bilateral post-lumpectomy/radiation breast revision via secondary breast reduction and lift with liposuction of the axillary rolls in a 64-year-old woman. Her breast cancer treatment was 8 years ago, and she also had a history of a breast reduction 14 years previously.
Deep shoulder grooves had formed over decades from the weight and pendulous nature of her heavy breasts. Her goal was to be smaller and have improved symmetry, knowing that radiation effects are permanent and that a radiated breast will always sit a little higher and be paler colored than the non-radiated side.
A breast reduction and lift removed excess tissue from each breast. Her breasts were rearranged to be perkier and more round in shape. Liposuction removed excess fat from her bra rolls and armpits.
Follow up photos are shown 1 year after surgery. As expected, the left radiated breast sits higher and has nicer-looking scars than the right side. Radiation interferes with collagen formation and causes prettier (but weaker) scars.
