Before and after post-weight loss mastopexy and liposuction of the axillary rolls in a 54-year-old woman who lost 130 pounds! She had dramatically changed her lifestyle “in order to save her life.” Incredibly, her high blood pressure and diabetes normalized after this dramatic weight loss. She was left, however, with empty and drooping breasts that pulled on her shoulders, neck and upper back and made it necessary for her to wear a bra all the time.
A mastopexy (breast lift) using the auto-augmentation technique reshaped her breasts and lifted them up higher on the chest wall. Liposuction removed excess fat from her armpits and bra rolls. At the same time, she had a full abdominoplasty with liposuction of her abdomen and flanks.
After surgery, she took a full two months off work and gradually started exercising, finding she could wear just one light sports bra and experiencing working out as an enjoyable experience now! Follow up photos are shown 8 months after surgery. She feels that her “life has just begun” now that she can wear whatever outfits she likes – even tank tops without a bra if she chooses.
Post-weight loss body contouring can help patients find an improved quality of life after years of obesity and needing to modify what they wear, the types of seats they must choose in a restaurant or airplane, and how they feel about themselves. Body image and self-esteem are intimately related to Plastic Surgery, and it is an honor and a privilege to help patients in their journey to take back control of their lives after massive weight loss.
