Before and after bilateral breast revision in a 52-year-old breast cancer survivor who had a left mastectomy and implant reconstruction elsewhere with “a lift” of her right nipple. She was not satisfied with accepting her asymmetry and inability to use her left dominant arm without having her left breast flex and cause deformity.
Despite being told by her former surgeon “You look good in clothes – you should be happy with that,” she did not accept that this outcome was the best that she could achieve. We are so happy that she found us!
Her revision involved removal of the implant from under the left pectoralis major muscle, suturing her muscle back to the sternum and ribs and restoring her normal chest muscle anatomy. A new smooth round silicone gel breast implant was placed on top of the muscle, in the prepectoral position. This eliminated her animation deformity and her muscle tightness and pain.
A proper mastopexy lifted the right nipple and areola and provided improved symmetry of the right non-cancer side to the left reconstructed breast. Early follow-up photos are shown 2 months after surgery, with pink scars but an observable improvement. She has begun scar therapy and is grateful that she now feels comfortable in a swimsuit and naked in front of her partner in addition to “just in clothes.”
