Before and after bilateral mastopexy using the “auto-augmentation” technique in a 28-year-old woman. She had lost weight since becoming a yoga instructor and opening her own studio, and lost fullness and structure to her breasts with the weight loss. She wanted the look she had when she wore her workout tops and dreamed about no longer needing to wear a bra.
A breast lift rearranges breast tissue into a pocket that sits above the breast fold, similar to a breast augmentation. However, the patient’s own breast tissue is used to fill the pocket rather than an implant. The last image shows an intraoperative view of breast shaping involved with an auto-augmentation mastopexy. Liposuction is always added to the axillary rolls and bra roll region at the end of the procedure – markings can be seen in her armpits for this purpose.
After surgery, she took four weeks off teaching yoga and resumed full teaching at 6 weeks. Follow up photos are shown 2 months after surgery. She still has some visible swelling in the lower pole of her breasts that will gradually resolve over the next month or two. She is ready to begin scar therapy, she has her full arm range of motion back and her nipple sensation is beginning to recover.
