Before and after bilateral implant removal in a 37-year-old woman. Her breast implants had been in place for 20 years, since she was eighteen. Although she was not having any specific complaints related to the implants, she felt it was time for a change and to feel comfortable in her own body.
Since her implants were saline, she was elated to learn she had the option to first deflate her implants by withdrawing the saline through a needle in her breast skin to “test drive” what her breasts would look like without implants. Only patients with saline breast implants are candidates for an interim deflation procedure.
She chose this option, which was performed in the office and took 15 minutes. After saline implant deflation, she kept her chest wrapped with an ACE wrap for a week and resumed exercise soon after that.
Four months later, she scheduled another in-office procedure to remove the empty implant shells. This procedure took just over an hour and was done under local anesthesia with laughing gas and an oral anti-anxiety medication.
Follow up photos are shown two weeks after surgery. She is ready to resume exercise and she loves being “au naturale!”
