Before and after right breast revision in a 55-year-old woman with congenital chest wall asymmetry called pectus excavatum. In her early 20’s she had some sort of implant placed to try to correct this deformity and create improved symmetry.
Since that time, the implant had gradually migrated downward and now sat below her breast, creating a new deformity and pain. A preoperative MRI revealed breakdown of the implant and confirmed migration of the implant to a non-anatomic position below the breast.
Her revision revealed removal of a surprising three separate implants on the right, reconstruction of her right inframammary fold and placement of a smooth round silicone gel breast implant on top of the muscle, in the subglandular position.
Follow up photos are shown 5 months postoperatively. She has greatly improved symmetry, the swelling in her cleavage and sternal area is gradually resolving, and her pain and discomfort is gone – the most important improvement!
