Before and after left delayed DIEP flap breast reconstruction in a 49 year old breast cancer survivor. She had previously completed neoadjuvant chemotherapy and a non-nipple sparing mastectomy, to be followed by radiation to her axilla. She was not offered breast reconstruction!!
Following completion of her radiation therapy, she waited 6 months before having breast reconstruction. She knew she wanted to use her own abdominal fat to reconstruct her breast and was thrilled to learn about the DIEP flap!
A right DIEP flap breast reconstruction was performed at the same time as a left breast lift. Six months later, she underwent right nipple and areola reconstruction.
Follow up photos are shown 3 weeks after completion of her nipple and areola reconstruction. This procedure was performed over 10 years ago. The tattoo intensity fades over time, but nowadays, we tattoo both areolas for the very best symmetry.
