Before and after left nipple sparing mastectomy and immediate implant reconstruction in a 39 year old woman with a large breast cancer. The tumor was causing distortion of the upper pole of her breast.
Her goal was to minimize surgery; she was an appropriate candidate for a nipple sparing mastectomy as the cancer was not immediately beneath or involving her nipple or areola. A combined breast cancer procedure and reconstruction was planned.
A smooth round adjustable permanent saline filled breast implant was placed immediately in the space where the breast tissue was, in the prepectoral position. It was completely filled to match the other breast at the time of surgery.
Follow up photos are shown just 2 weeks after surgery. Her drains were in place for 9 days; she is traveling to her home state for chemotherapy and/or radiation and will return to see us in follow up when she is back in California.
