Before and after breast augmentation in a 34 year old woman. She was extremely thin and active and wanted a natural result that would not interfere with her physical activities. She had several children and had breast fed for years and wanted that former fullness back.
Smooth round silicone gel breast implants were placed through an incision in the fold under the breast in the subglandular position, on top of the pectoralis major muscle. Although this is the standard of care in our office, she specifically wanted this option for her body, and was thrilled to learn this is our preference as well!
Having implants on top of the muscle looks more natural, it is much less painful than submuscular or subpectoral breast augmentation, the recovery is more straightforward, and there is no animation deformity when the chest muscles are flexed – which occurs with nearly every upper body activity.
Follow up photos are shown two months after surgery. She resumed running at three weeks, without restrictions. She looks and feels natural, and often forgets she has implants!
