Before and after delayed breast reconstruction in a 61 year old woman. She had a history of right sided breast cancer, chemotherapy and radiation with a failed right implant reconstruction. After having a lumpectomy scare on the left side, she chose to have a left completion mastectomy and a bilateral reconstruction using her body’s own tissue.

Her goals was to be reconstructed slightly fuller than her natural breast size using her own body tissue. She had a DIEP flap on one side and an SIEA flap on the other, based on her intraoperative anatomy and dominant blood vessels to the lower abdominal tissue.

Follow up photos after nipple and areola reconstruction are shown at a year and a half after her reconstruction. Her breast scars are still pink but the nipple and areola reconstructions draw attention away from incisions. She returned to competitive golfing 6 weeks after surgery, and even took up surfing lessons!
