Before and after breast revision in a 63 year old breast cancer survivor. Nearly 30 years ago she had bilateral breast reconstructions with TRAM flaps, chemotherapy and left chest wall radiation.
She initially had a good result but her body had changed with time and she had developed significant asymmetry. Her goal was to be able to fit a bra and to feel comfortable. Our goal is always to help our patients look AS GOOD AS POSSIBLE, no matter what the prior surgeries/treatments and circumstances are!
A bilateral breast revision involved debulking her larger right breast TRAM flap and removing excess fat from her bra rolls area using liposuction. The right breast was re-lifted right to improve symmetry with the left radiated and contracted side, free fat grafting to add more volume and projection to the left side, and bilateral nipple-areola tattoo.
Follow up photos are shown at two months after surgery. She no longer needs to wear padding in the left side of her bra, and her shirts no longer get pulled to one side by the larger and heavier breast reconstruction.
The patient’s goals were exceeded, and we all feel very pleased with her results. Although perfect symmetry is never possible in ANY setting, we aim to make breasts (both reconstructive and cosmetic surgery cases) as beautiful and symmetric as humanly possible.
