Before and after bilateral DIEP flap breast reconstruction in a 62 year old woman. She previously had a right mastectomy and tissue expander reconstruction and was unhappy with the outcome. She chose to have a left prophylactic mastectomy and bilateral reconstructions using her own tissue.
A left nipple sparing mastectomy was done through a scar under the left in the inframammary fold. Her right implant was removed and her pectoralis major muscle was returned to the chest wall. Bilateral DIEP flaps reconstruction both breasts.
She had a tendency to create severely hypertrophic scars. She spent several years doing scar therapy. Her right nipple and areola reconstruction was done via medical tattoo. Follow up images are shown three years postoperatively.
