Before and after breast revision in a 57 year old breast cancer survivor. She had previously had bilateral mastectomies and implant reconstruction. Her implants were tight under the muscle, creating pain and deformity whenever she used her arms.
Because her implants were under the muscle, she had permanent indentations on the sides of her breasts that exacerbated the under-the-muscle deformity. Despite her being very thin, she also had armpit fat that made her feel self-conscious whenever she wore a sleeveless shirt.
A breast revision removed the old implants, returned her pectoralis major muscles to the chest wall, and placed new silicone gel (“gummy bear”) implants on top of the muscle. Liposuction of the axillary rolls significantly improved the appearance of her armpits.
Follow up photos are shown at 3 months after surgery. She looks and feels much more comfortable and no longer has the “motion deformity” or “flexion deformity” that is so common with submuscular implant reconstruction. She is very happy wearing sleeveless tennis tops again.
