Before and after breast revision in a 54 year old woman who was previously treated for left breast cancer. She had a past breast augmented and required a left mastectomy and implant reconstruction to match her right breast.
Her left implant was bottomed out, sitting too low on her chest wall. It was also too big and did not match her right breast size, which she preferred. She had an unsightly upper chest scar from a past lumpectomy – unfortunately her breast surgeon did not take aesthetics into account in his lumpectomy design or consider her ability to show cleavage in the future.
Her implants were exchanged for the newest more cohesive silicone (“gummy bear”) implants. The bottoming out was corrected by reconstruction of her left inframammary fold. A scar revision was done to excise and redo her left upper chest scar to try to improve its final appearance.
Follow up images are seen at 2 years after surgery. She has much better symmetry of her breasts. Her upper chest scar is improved, although once a scar is created, there is nothing that can take it away. This is why design of incisions (even in breast cancer treatment) is so important – to preserve aesthetics!
