Before and after right breast revision in a 46-year-old woman with capsular contracture on the right side.  Her right breast had become firm and sat higher up after a root canal.  Her surgeon had not advised her to take prophylactic antibiotics before dental work or colonoscopies, as we do in our practice.  The infected tooth root was the most likely cause of capsular contracture.

Her revision involved capsulectomy to remove excess scar tissue and to open up the implant space, and implant exchange.  The culture of the internal scar tissue from the right capsule did not show any residual bacteria, so her risk of recurrence of capsular contracture was low.  Follow up photos are shown 3 months after surgery, with greatly improved symmetry.
