Before and after bilateral breast reconstruction revision in a 49-year-old breast cancer survivor. Her previously placed implants for reconstruction were contracted and painful, and after several past implant revisions, she wanted to have an autogenous tissue reconstruction.
Her implants were removed along with the surrounding capsular scar tissue. Skin and fat was microsurgically transplanted from her lower abdomen to her chest as bilateral DIEP flaps. This enabled her to have two soft, warm, living tissue breast reconstructions and to say goodbye to implants forever.
Follow up photos are shown 1 year after surgery. Although she now also has a scar on her abdomen, she appreciates the tummy tuck result on her belly and she loves her natural-looking and feeling breasts!
