Before and after right breast revision in a 53-year-old breast cancer survivor. Her previously placed right saline implant had flipped upside down, as evidenced by the circle showing through her thin mastectomy flap. Some of her areola tissue had been left behind during her mastectomy, which lay above the nipple reconstruction and looked odd.
Her revision involved exchange of the upside-down saline implant for a smooth round silicone gel implant, excision of the old areola skin, and medical tattoo for the right areola.
Follow up photos are shown 9 months after surgery. Her tattoo will fade over time and look more symmetric with the other breast. If this case were done today, we would have recommended tattoo of both areolas for even better symmetry.
