Before and after bilateral breast implant removal and mastopexy (breast lift) in a 62 year old woman. She had had her breast implants for over 20 years, following massive weight loss surgery. She wasn’t having any particular problems with them such as contracture or pain, but she felt they didn’t fit her lifestyle or personality any longer.
An outpatient procedure in the operating room was planned, given the large size of the implants and the need to rearrange her remaining breast tissue on the inside to fill the empty space after they were removed. She understood she would need drains for up to a week after surgery given the extent of internal breast rearrangement.
A bilateral explantation was performed through the incision under her breasts. Her pectoralis major muscles, shown flexing before surgery and creating an animation deformity, were released from the breast tissue and returned to the chest wall, reconstructing her chest muscle anatomy.
A rearrangement of her remaining breast in a mastopexy was performed. Liposuction of the sides of her breasts and her armpit area (axillary rolls) completed her procedure. Follow up photos are shown one year after surgery, with mature scars and a natural but proportional result.
