Before and after left delayed breast implant reconstruction in a 51 year old breast cancer survivor.  She had initially wanted a DIEP flap; unfortunately, this surgery was performed elsewhere and was not successful.  She required a debridement of her unhealthy flap and a temporary implant was placed. She needed a revision of her implant reconstruction and a nipple and areola reconstruction on the left side.

Her temporary implant was removed and the original boundaries of her left breast were surgically recreated.  A smooth round silicone gel breast implant was placed on top of the muscle, in the prepectoral position.

Her left nipple was created by “nipple sharing”, which takes a piece of the other nipple and moves it as a free graft to the reconstructed side.  It heals like a skin graft – in this case, as a free nipple graft. Her left areola was reconstructed by medical tattoo. Liposuction cleaned up her “back fat/bra roll” area as a final aesthetic touch to her breast revision surgery.

Follow up photos are shown one year after surgery.  Her naturally hypertrophic scars are beginning to fade and she has greatly improved symmetry.
