Before and after bilateral DIEP flap breast reconstruction n a 64 year old woman. She previously had bilateral lumpectomies and radiation therapy, with significant radiation damage. She sought relief of her chronic pain from deep scar tissue and improvement of her breast deformity that prevented her from swimming with her grandchildren.

She required bilateral completion mastectomies to clear out the hard, damaged breast tissue and unhealthy skin. At the same procedure, skin and fat was microsurgically transplanted to her chest to reconstruct her breasts. The left radiated skin, which was as tight and thick as leather, was replaced with healthy abdominal skin. Her abdominal contour was greatly improved as well!

One year later, she underwent nipple and areola reconstruction and flap contouring using liposuction, including removal of excess fat in her axillary roll (upper back fat/bra roll region).

Long term follow up photos are shown at four years after surgery. Her tattoos are holding up and her scars are all mature. Her pain is gone and she swims daily for exercise, and runs around with her grandchildren (and great grandchildren now) every weekend!
