Before and after bilateral breast revision and mastopexy in a 39 year old woman. One of her old saline breast implants had deflated. Her implants were under the muscle with a significant animation deformity. Her goal was to stay around the same size as her augmented breast but to have a more natural looking result and a subtle lift.
Her old saline implants were removed and new smooth round silicone gel breast implants were placed in a new pocket, on top of the muscle in a subglandular location. Her degree of nipple ptosis (droop) was mild – therefore, a periareolar mastopexy with an incision all the way around the areola was the most appropriate procedure for her.
Follow up photos are shown three months after surgery. Her animation deformity has been eliminated by changing the plane of the implant from submuscular (subpectoral) to subglandular. She is very pleased with her results and relieved to learn that she does NOT need to have her breast implants removed and replaced every ten years.
We continue to see our patients in long term follow up and recommend a physical examination in person every 10 years. As long as the breasts are soft and symmetric without any problems such as capsular contracture, there is no need for future surgery!
