Before and after bilateral breast augmentation and mastopexy in a 24 year old woman with severely tubular breasts. Her breasts were asymmetry and very out of proportion to the rest of her body, with a constricted breast base, small breast size and enlarged areola.
The term “tubular” or “tuberous” comes from the word “tuber”, which means potato. Most women seeking surgery to correct their tubular breast shape “just want to look normal”. This usually means better symmetry and proportion of their breast size, a reduction of the diameter of their areola, and correction of the puffiness of their areola tissue behind the nipple.
This patient underwent placement of smooth round silicone gel breast implants on top of the muscle, in the subglandular position. A breast lift reduced her areola diameter and gave her better symmetry of the nipple-areola complexes. Liposuction of the axillary rolls and back fat/bra roll regions helped to contour this area to complement the breast procedure.
Long term follow up photos are shown nearly ten years after surgery. She is amazed when she looks at her “before” photos now. She is married now and is planning on starting a family. She no longer thinks about her breasts when dressing or undressing, and she loves her curves and her breasts!
