Before and after bilateral nipple-sparing mastectomies and immediate breast implant reconstruction in a 33-year-old woman with breast cancer. She had completed neoadjuvant chemotherapy and was ready for surgical treatment. She chose to have a double mastectomy and prepectoral implant reconstruction.
At the same time as removal of her breast tissue, smooth round permanent postoperatively adjustable implants were placed on top of the muscle, in the space where the breast tissue was. They were fully inflated at the time of surgery.
After surgery, she required right breast radiation therapy for six weeks. Radiation will slightly shrink the breast and cause the nipple to sit a little higher than the non-radiated side. These changes are permanent, unfortunately.
Follow up photos are shown 1 year after her mastectomies and 9 months after completion of radiation therapy.
