Before and after bilateral nipple-sparing mastectomies and immediate implant reconstruction in a 31-year-old woman with breast cancer.  Following a right lumpectomy that came back with positive margins for cancer cells, she required a right mastectomy.  She chose to have a prophylactic mastectomy on the left as well and chose an implant reconstruction for both breasts.

Through incisions hidden in the folds of her breasts, all her breast tissue was removed but the nipples and areolas were preserved.  At the same time, smooth round permanent postoperatively adjustable implants were placed in the space where the breast tissue was, on top of the muscle, in the prepectoral position.  The implants were inflated to be fuller than her preoperative breast size, as per our patient’s aesthetic goals.

After surgery, one additional inflation was performed to achieve her final reconstruction results.  Follow up photos are shown 6 weeks after surgery.  She has started chemotherapy and will schedule her port removal sometime next year.  She is considering switching her saline breast implants to silicone gel for an even softer and more natural feel.
