Before and after bilateral implant reconstruction in a 45 year old breast cancer survivor. Following four different lumpectomies and right breast radiation therapy, and she chose to have a right completion mastectomy and a left prophylactic mastopexy. Her nipples were saved, since the past tumors were a distance from the nipple and areola.
In a single surgery, both nipple-sparing mastectomies were completed and smooth round permanent postoperatively adjustable implants were placed on top of the muscle, in the prepectoral position. Postoperatively, the patient chose to have them inflated larger than her preoperative breast size. At the time of the adjustable saline breast implant port removal, she chose to have her saline implants exchanged for silicone.
Long-term follow up photos are shown 4 years after surgery. She was able to maintain her body image, get her dream of fuller breasts, and move forward as a breast cancer survivor despite past radiation to her breast.
