Before and after bilateral nipple-sparing mastectomies and implant reconstruction in a 53-year-old woman with breast cancer. She elected to have a bilateral mastectomy since she did not want to worry about cancer developing in her non-affected breast.
Incisions were made in the fold under her breasts, and her breast tissue was removed by one of our favorite mastectomy surgeons. A smooth round adjustable saline breast implant was placed at the same procedure, on top of the muscle, in the prepectoral position. It was filled up more than her original breast volume, as her goal was to be fuller and to make this procedure her “Mommy Makeover.”
Following a couple of additional injections of saline into the remote implant port which stayed under her skin for several months, she confirmed she was happy with the final implant volume. At the time of port removal, she chose to switch her saline breast implants to silicone, and also had fat graft injected into the upper pole of her breasts.
Long-term follow up photos are shown 4 years after surgery. She feels very comfortable in her skin, loves her fuller breasts, and usually does not think about her cancer diagnosis – which is one of the very tangible benefits of breast reconstruction!
