Before and after DIEP flap breast reconstruction in a 57 year old woman. She had a left breast cancer and required a skin sparing mastectomy. Unfortunately, her left nipple and areola required removal due to tumor involvement. She did not want an implant for reconstruction and wanted a “one and done” reconstruction as much as possible.
A left skin sparing mastectomy was performed by an incision around her nipple and areola. Her left breast was reconstructed using a DIEP flap from her lower abdomen. Her left nipple was reconstructed a year later using a free nipple graft from the right breast and medical tattoo.
Follow up images are shown three years after her DIEP flap reconstruction and two years after nipple and areola reconstruction. Her old appendix scar is gone and she has a flatter abdomen, good breast symmetry, and no foreign material (implants) in her body!
