Before and after left mastectomy and DIEP flap breast reconstruction in a 48-year-old woman with breast cancer. Her tumor involved her left nipple, so it required removal together with the contents of her breast. A flap of skin and fat was microvascularly transplanted from her lower abdomen to her left chest to reconstruct her breast.

A right breast reduction and lift was performed at the same time. After surgery, the patient required chemotherapy which prolonged her healing on the right side, leading to hyperpigmentation of her skin. After she finished chemo, she underwent left nipple and areola reconstruction and steroid injections to hypertrophic scars.

Follow up photos are shown 7 years after surgery.
