Before and after bilateral delayed implant reconstruction in a 35-year-old breast cancer survivor. Following bilateral mastectomies and implant reconstructions, she developed a severe infection during chemotherapy requiring removal of both of her implants.
After a period of six months, her immune system had fully recovered from chemo and her breast skin became less edematous (firm swelling that develops after trauma such as infection). Smooth round silicone gel breast implants were replaced in the same space that the breast tissue formerly was, on top of the pectoralis major muscle in the prepectoral position.
Follow up photos are shown 6 months after surgery. She is relieved to have her breast reconstruction back and to move on with her life!
