Before and after right delayed breast implant reconstruction and left balancing mastopexy in a 47-year-old breast cancer survivor. She had always wanted a breast lift, and while being worked up for this procedure, her mammogram showed an abnormality which turned out to be breast cancer. She completed neoadjuvant chemotherapy to shrink the tumor before surgery, as evidenced by her chemo port on her chest.

A right mastectomy removed her right breast, but preserved her breast skin, nipple and areola. She presented to our office a few months after her mastectomy and was thrilled to learn that she was still a candidate for a breast lift that would be incorporated into her breast reconstruction.

A right smooth round silicone gel breast implant was placed on top of the muscle, in the prepectoral position. The right nipple and areola was lifted at the same time using the skin-only mastopexy technique around the breast implant.

A left breast lift using the auto-augmentation technique reshaped her breast tissue and moved it up higher on her chest. Liposuction removed excess fat from her armpits and bra rolls.

Follow up photos are shown 1 year after surgery. Her scars are nearly mature, and she appreciates the symmetry of her breast reconstruction. Other than her right implant feeling cold (due to less blood flow over the implant) and right breast numbness, she actually feels “pretty normal!”
