Before and after right delayed breast implant reconstruction in a 64-year-old breast cancer survivor who had previously had bilateral nipple-sparing mastectomies and implant reconstruction. Her right implant required removal due to chronic infection.
After it had been out for six months to allow for infection-related firm swelling called edema to resolve, her tissues were ready for implant reinsertion. Following capsulectomy to remove thick scar tissue and reopen the implant space, a smooth round silicone gel breast was placed on top of the muscle, in the prepectoral position. A culture of the capsule was sent for analysis to ensure there were no longer bacteria present – her culture was clear.
Follow up photos are shown 1 month after surgery with restored symmetry and a happy patient!
