Before and after delayed implant reconstruction and revision breast implant reconstruction in a 61 year old BRCA gene positive woman. Many years ago, she had bilateral prophylactic mastectomies with removal of her nipples and areolas. While she never developed breast cancer, she unfortunately developed infections and lost her implants one at a time, with interim replacement of implants before a final successful reconstruction surgery.
Shown are before images after loss of her implants on one side or the other, with after images a year after reconstruction of one side and 3 months after reconstruction of the other. She decided to forgo nipple reconstruction and fat grafting as final stages due to many past wound healing issues, primarily from very thin mastectomy skin flaps.
Smooth round silicone gel breast implants were placed on top of the muscle in the prepectoral position. While reconstruction results can never be “perfect”, she is happy with her results. She feels “as whole again as possible” and can finally get on with her life after years of complications.
