Before and after bilateral breast reduction and lift in an 18-year-old woman. She was a senior in high school and wanted to have surgery soon after graduation to allow her the entire summer for healing and recovery before going off to college.
Her breasts were asymmetric, heavy and interfering with her multiple varsity sports activities. She measured as an “H” and an “I” cup in bras, and she already was experiencing neck strain and back pain at an early age due to her large, heavy, dense breasts.
A breast reduction removed different amounts of breast tissue from each side in order to achieve symmetry and relieve her symptoms. An auto-augmentation technique of breast tissue rearrangement and lift reshaped her breasts and lifted them up to sit higher up on her chest. No liposuction was planned for this surgery since she did not have a significant fat deposit in the axillary area.
Follow up photos are shown 1 year after surgery, with scars that are maturing well and a more symmetric and age-appropriate result. Teenage scars take longer to mature, since younger patients produce more collagen to form very strong scars (as opposed to elderly patients whose scars look beautiful but are actually weaker, with less collagen deposition).
Her scars will continue to fade and flatten, becoming less pink as dilated blood vessels from active healing naturally recede over the next year. Wearing only light sports bras or bralettes (no particular cup size), she feels like a normal, athletic 19-year-old athlete now!
