Before and after breast reconstruction by the breast reduction and lift method in a 59-year-old breast cancer survivor. Her left breast had previously been treated for invasive cancer with a large lumpectomy, chemotherapy and radiation therapy.
Following her treatment, she was left with breast asymmetry and an indentation in the inner lower quadrant of the breast due to fibrosis (internal scarring) that was amplified by the radiation. She declined the option of a completion mastectomy that would clear out the rest of her left breast, allowing a somewhat “fresh canvas”. Instead, she was interested in the breast reconstruction method by reduction and lift.
Her left breast reconstruction involved local tissue rearrangement to reshape the left breast internally and a balancing breast reduction on the right. Liposuction removed excess fat from her bra rolls and armpits.
Follow up photos are shown 3 months after surgery. She is a candidate for superficial subcutaneous free fat grafting or a small implant to help better fill out the depression in her left breast – she is happy with her results and her improved symmetry!
