Before and after breast augmentation in a 22 year old woman. She presented to our office with two surgeries of interest – an inverted nipple correction and a breast augmentation. Since we know that the most common breast implant-related complication, capsular contracture, is related to bacteria, the decision was made to perform the inverted nipple correction first. The nipple contains bacteria that can be stimulated and can travel to a breast implant if it is placed at the same surgery while both areas are still actively healing.

Her inverted nipple correction procedure was performed in the office under local anesthesia. Six weeks later, she scheduled her breast augmentation under general anesthesia. Using an incision hidden in her breast fold, smooth round silicone gel breast implants were placed on top of the muscle, in the subglandular position. She started implant massage within a week and healed without any complications.

The preoperative photos are taken a week after inverted nipple correction when there is still bruising evident. Follow up photos are shown eight months after surgery. She loves her nipples – and her breasts!
