Before and after liposuction of the abdomen and flanks in a 50-year-old woman. She had lost weight and become very fit, but she still had stubborn fat around her midsection that she could not target with diet and exercise.
Liposuction removed three liters of fat in an outpatient procedure performed under general anesthesia. After surgery, she took two weeks off work and worked from home until one month after surgery. She resumed full exercise at six weeks and wore compression under her clothes for two months.
Follow up photos are shown 8 months after surgery. An improved abdominal contour is evident, along with residual swelling of her tissue and puckering of her skin that will gradually improve over the next eight months. She does have some loose lower abdominal skin, but this is not bothersome to her at this time.
She is a candidate for a mini-abdominoplasty in the future, should she change her mind. This procedure would surgically trim excess loose lower abdominal skin and inset her belly button higher, effectively redraping her abdominal skin snugly downward.
