Before and after liposuction of the abdomen and circumferential flanks in a 41-year-old woman. After having children, she had excess fat deposits in her mid-section.
She also had loose lower abdominal skin that could have been addressed by an abdominoplasty, but she did not want the long lower abdominal scar that is involved with a tummy tuck. She did not have significant abdominal muscle separation (rectus diastasis) so it was reasonable to plan liposuction only.
Her fat was firm and fibrous, similar to male fat (which is typically very fibrous and resistant to removal). To address this quality of adipose tissue, ultrasonic liposuction is the most effective way to remove the fat cells. Ultrasound-assisted liposuction of the abdomen, flanks, lower back and pubic region removed four liters of fat. After surgery, she wore compression under her clothes for three months.
Follow up photos are shown three months after surgery. Her abdominal skin will likely contract further with time. She has the option to have removal of her lower abdominal skin under local anesthesia in the future if she wishes.
