Before and after massive hernia repair combined with an abdominoplasty closure in a 63 year old woman who had lost a significant amount of weight, but still had extra hanging abdominal tissue. She required a hernia repair with mesh by a General Surgeon.
She wanted to have the most aesthetic outcome to her surgery. It was very reasonable to apply cosmetic principles and standards to her hernia repair. That’s what Plastic Surgery is all about – making the final cosmetic outcome look and feel as good as possible!
Her lower abdominal overhanging skin and fat (known as a “pannus”) was excised as a “panniculectomy”. Next, the General Surgeon repaired her hernia and reinforced the repair using internal mesh. Her rectus abdominis muscles were then repaired to one another in the midline, her abdominal skin was stretched downward and her belly button was reconstructed.
Lastly, liposuction of the upper and lower abdomen, flanks, pubic region and upper inner thighs completed the procedure. Follow up photos are shown 4 months after surgery.
